簡介
Tokyo is a three-time occupied city. The first occupation was in 1590 by the Tokugawa. The second occupation was in 1868 by the combined forces of Satsuma and Choshu. The third occupation was in 1945 by US forces. With each occupation, Japan has transformed from the age of war to the age of construction. After the initial occupation by the Tokugawa, Edo(Tokyo) became a city of waterways and temples with a population of one million. Following the occupation by Satsuma and Choshu, Tokyo became the city of emperor’s army and the center of the railway network that stretched throughout Japan. After the occupation by the U.S. military, the Tokyo Olympics were held using the U.S. military facilities returned to Japan. But what happened to the memory landscape of those who
were defeated in each of these occupations and erased from the city's surface? If you walk slowly and carefully in today's Tokyo, you will find that in the landscapes painted over by the victors, the landscapes of the memories of the losers still remain, revealing the cross-sections of history.
