Heterotopia: Revisiting Hsinchu Industrial Park&Neighborhood
— Shu-Fen Lin, Institute of Social Research and Cultural Studies, National Chiao Tung University
Project schedule:2018/1-2020/7
Adjacent to the largest armored brigade in northern Taiwan, the Hsinchu Industrial Park (HIP), established in Hukou Township, Hsinchu County, has never occupied the limelight, in contrast to the well-known Hsinchu Science Park (HSP). This project will investigate into the impacts of changing development strategies and the corresponding mobility regimes in post-war Taiwan on the reconfiguration of economic, cultural, and ethnic landscapes of the neighborhood surrounding the HIP. It will also focus, in particular, on the practices of self-organization and social networking of transnational (im)migrants in this area.
