2019/11/27 Goran Fejic-THE DEMISE OF (STATE) MULTILATERALISM IN THE MULTIPOLAR WORLD; WHY?
Date: 11/27 WED
Time: 14:00-17:00
Venue: R106A, HA Building at NCTU
Why is multilateralism (the idea that international relations should be shaped by commonly agreed rules and implemented for the benefit of all) undergoing a crisis today, precisely at the time when the world seems to become genuinely multi-polar?
About the Speaker: Goran Fejic, economist, former Yugoslav diplomat and UN field coordinator and practitioner, reflects on the evolution of multilateralism through its different phases, since the end of WWII. He analyses, in particular, the contradictory political interpretations of the end of the Cold War and the effects these interpretations have had on the behaviour of states and the evolution of multilateralism. He sees a link between its current crisis and the rise of populisms across the world.
