Critical Theory and Asian Modernity

Introduction

This cluster is led by the research team of the Graduate Institute for Social Research and Cultural Studies at National Chiao Tung University . The cluster consists of 23 members from the four universities (10 from National Chiao Tung University, 9 from National Tsing Hua University, 1 from National Central University, and 3 from National Yang Ming University).
 

Research Orientation

1.     The Modernity and the Context of Asian History concentration includes the following courses and topics: Revolution, Republicans and Democrats, Colonialism and De-colonialism, Formation of the Modern State, Civil War, Migrational State Divisions, The Second War Experience, Cold-War Structure, Refugee Camps, and Cultural Revolution and Martial Law.
2.     The Modernity and the Formation of Asian Knowledge concentration includes the following courses and topics: Modern East-Asian Knowledge Circles, Modern East-Asian Political Thoughts, Thoughts on Socialism, and World History and East-Asia.
3.     The Modernity and Critical Theory concentration includes the following courses and topics: Nation-States, Bio-Government, Border Mechanisms, Identity Issues, Traumatic Memories, Transformational Justice, and Conflicts of Ethnic Groups.
